Brandes charity auction for Vietnam and Syria refugees
"I am life that wants to live, surrounded by life that wants to live." (Albert Schweizer)
The news is full of reports of people who have lost everything and had to flee from war, famine and death. In desperation and the desire to live free from fear, they take drastic measures which often result in death.
I was deeply saddened when I saw the image of Aylan Kurdi, the dead Syrian boy on the beach in Turkey. . He was taken in the midst of life and had the right to live.
Often there are certain images that touch us emotionally and let us emphasize with those that have been affected by tragedy.
The photo of the three-year-old who was washed up dead on the coast of Bodrum (Turkey), went around the world and is a symbol of the failure of the European Union to assist in this humanitarian crisis.
43 years ago there was another iconic image that put a peace movement in action. . On June 8, 1972, the village of Trang Bang, near Saigon was hit in an U.S. air raid.
Naked and burnt, the then 9-year-old Kim Phúc fled - and was photographed by Nick Ut. Around the world, she became known as the ‘Napalm Girl’ and she became an icon for those calling for the war to come to an end.
I also want to help and contribute to the people in distress.
Therefore I want to offer as a (limited) special edition in the midst of the refugee crisis, this historic photo with original autographs of Kim Phuc and Nick Ut at auction. This Autograph is especially unique in this form, because there has never been a joint signing of the "Napalm Girl" of Kim Phuc and Nick UtA rarity, which once again is peacemaking, because the entire proceeds will be donated. 50% will go to the Kim Phuc Foundation, which continues to assists victims of chemical pollutants that were used during the Vietnam War. works to polluted by chemical victims of the Vietnam War. The other 50% will be donated to a Konstanz refugee assistance organization café mondial and the organization Sea-Watch (aid to refugees in the Mediterranean Sea).
‘The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others’. Albert Schweizer
