The DB10, one of only two "show cars" from the 10 made specially for the film, smashed its reserve price of £1m.

Once in a very long while, a rare book or manuscript discovery is so remarkable that it makes national headlines.  In 1988, for instance, an anonymous Massachusetts collector recovered an 1827 first edition of Edgar Allan Poe’s Tamerlane from a roadside barn. Many will also recall the 1989 story of the man who found an original broadside copy of the Declaration of Independence hidden inside a picture frame that he bought at a Pennsylvania flea market for $4 (and later sold at Sotheby’s for $2.4 million).

A massive, 45-box archive originating from the estate of The Godfather author-screenwriter Mario Puzo is headed to auction in February. The treasure trove of material includes thousands of pages, drafts, notes and varying versions of both the novel manuscript and film screenplay, the latter co-written with director Francis Ford Coppola.

Janis Joplin's psychedelic Porsche sold for $1.76 million Thursday night at RM Sotheby's "Driven By Disruption" car auction in New York. The iconic vehicle – a pearl-white 1965 Porsche 365c 1600 Cabriolet decked out with a kaleidoscopic Flower Power paint job – was expected to bring between $400,000 and $600,000, CNN reports.
